Artist and designer based in San Francisco

Annie May Johnston received her Master of Fine Art degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016. She has lived and worked in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and Denver and is proud to call San Francisco home. While in Paris Johnston editioned works for artists like Jim Dine, Allen Jones and Miguel Mont. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and in 2017 completed a 90 ft commissioned piece for Facebook. Every city has contributed to her artistic sensibilities and they bring different flavors into the patterns and designs.

The name MOTIF comes from the French word for pattern. The definition in English involves a distinctive feature or dominant idea in an artistic composition. For the design studio, patterns are a rhythmic and ancient formula that are powerful and endlessly intriguing,  offering both subtle + bold interpretations that can be endlessly modified and transformed. As one of the oldest forms of decoration, patterns create a link between our living spaces and our surrounding natural and built environments.
